Bramble Trail

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 June 2026

The short version

Bramble Trail is a scavenger hunt app for children. It is designed so that everything stays on your device.

The rest of this policy explains this in more detail.

Who is responsible for this app

Bramble Trail is created and published by James Cook, an individual operating as a sole trader, based in the United Kingdom. For data protection purposes, I am the data controller for this app.

I am registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). ICO registration number: [ICO registration number to be inserted once confirmed].

The information the app handles

To work as a scavenger hunt for children, the app saves some information on your device. This can include:

You do not have to provide a real name or age. A nickname works just as well, and the app is fully usable without photos.

Where this information is stored

All of this information is stored only in the app's own private storage on your device. None of it is sent to me, to any server, or to any third party. There is no account to create, nothing to log in to, and no cloud backup run by the app. Because of this, I never see or receive any of the information above and have no way to access it.

Photos

One way a child can mark an item as found is by taking a photo of it. The app will ask for permission to use the camera the first time this is needed, not when the app first opens. Photos taken this way are saved only on your device and are never uploaded or shared by the app. They are deleted when the related hunt is removed or when you wipe the app's data. The camera is never used for anything else, and the other ways to mark an item as found (such as a tick, listen, smell or touch) do not need the camera at all.

Children's privacy

Bramble Trail is intended to be used by children together with a parent or guardian. I take children's privacy seriously and have deliberately built the app so that it does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information about anyone, including children. There is no advertising, no profiling, no tracking, and no contact with any outside service. Any information entered stays on the device and under your control.

What the app does not do

Keeping and deleting information

Because everything is stored on your device, you decide how long it is kept. You can delete a profile's information, or wipe all of the app's data, using the option in the app's Settings. Uninstalling the app also removes all of its stored information from your device.

Security

The information the app saves is held in the app's private storage area on your device, which is protected by your device's operating system. As with any information kept on a phone or tablet, keeping your device itself secure (for example with a passcode) is the best way to protect it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including the right to access it, correct it, and delete it. Because all of the information handled by Bramble Trail stays on your own device and I do not hold or have access to any of it, you can exercise these rights directly: you can view and change profile details in the app, and delete information at any time using the Settings options or by uninstalling the app. If you have any questions about your rights or this policy, you can contact me at hello@brambletrail.app.

Permissions the app may request

The only device permission the app may request is access to the camera, and only at the point a child chooses the photo method to mark an item as found. The app does not request location, microphone, contacts, or any background permissions.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here and the date at the top will be updated. If a future version of the app introduces anything that handles information differently, this policy will be updated to explain it before that feature is released.
